11:22 am - it's ugly

so here was the drawing I did first after declaring my goal of increased creativity. I was feeling anxious and scared of life as usual so to get down to business I had to drink I nice tall glass of Hennessey. Drinking a bit always loosens me up (ie: gets me to not worry about the superficial outcome of something and just do it), it's not something I do everytime, it's more of a last resort thing. But the danger is it can make you go too far which is what happened when I thought to color it with markers, thus ruining it.

10:29 am - Creativity

This year I have been horribly unproductive. I really haven't done much of anything creative at all yet. I had lots of plans for art projects this year similar to last year but that is all out the window, at least in terms of monthly goals. The reasons for this are varied, mostly medical and psychological. At any rate, my new goal is to try and do a little something creative everyday, whether it be drawing, painting, photomanipulation, animation, photography, or even cake decorating for all I know. I just gotta do something. Of course I came up with this idea last week and immediately came down with a debilitating sinus infection. No matter how utterly crappy my attempts are, I intend to post them here. I found it enormously rewarding to see the progression last year as the pic posts piled up. Keep in mind my quality level will most likely be fairly low and that I won't necessarily be posting everyday, just doing some artwork everyday, even if it is just continuing the previous days.

11:46 pm - William S. Burroughs

I just barely made it, here is my last piece of artwork for the decade. The author of Naked Lunch is the last of my author series for this year (I may continue it, not sure). Not the best likeness and the two sides of the face don't match but I like it.

11:02 pm - George Orwell

This is my portrait for November, George Orwell (his real name was Eric Arthur Blair). Author of Animal Farm and, of course, 1984. He also wrote numerous essays, articles, and the like. He was very political and outspoken. Also he was shot through the throat by a sniper in the Spanish Civil War and lived, so he's pretty hard core.

10:58 pm - Hunter S. Thompson

The original Gonzo Journalist Hunter S. Thompson was supposed to be my author portrait for September but I decided to almost die of swine flu and pneumonia instead (and really who wouldn't?). If you don't know who he is go out and rent Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas immediately then follow that up with a couple of his books. This drawing is darker and sloppier than I would've liked but I had a hard time with it for some reason.

10:03 pm - Clive Barker

So here is my portrait for October. Clive Barker is one of my favorite writers and a one of the best horror writers there is. Movies based on his work include: Hellraiser, Nightbreed, Lord of Illusions, and Midnight Meat Train. This was not as good as I would have liked and the photo I used had a weird shadow from his hand cast across his face which I changed to be from the Hellraiser puzzle box (called the Lament Configuration), but I am not sure it works. Anyway I still haven't done my September Portrait but I have two months to try and make it up. Hope everybody had a happy Halloween.
